Chrysalis Youth Action Fund at Maine Initiatives: Chrysalis grantees
Our Chrysalis grantees affirm that the youth movement for peace, equality, and justice is alive and well in Maine. From 2003 through 2006, Chrysalis made grants to these organizations:
Blunt Youth Radio, Portland, to open a satellite production studio at the Kennedy Park housing project to engage refugee youth in producing Blunt, the weekly teen radio program on community radio station WMPG-FM 90.9.
Campus Organizing Project, Lewiston, Portland, and Bangor, a project of Maine People's Alliance, to engage high school and college students in community issues affecting them.
The Destroyers (of Stereotyping), Newcastle/Damariscotta, a project of Youthlinks, to organize commmunity conversations with teens to discuss stereotyping, its impact on their lives, and actions they can take to make a difference.
Students Organizing Students (SOS), a project of EqualityMaine Foundation, to connect, support, and train young leaders in Maine's movement fo gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender equality.
Gray/New Gloucester High School Gay-Straight Alliance, to send members to a conference for networking, education, and outreach training.
Nothing But Hoops, Portland, a project of Institute for Practical Democracy, to instill leadership, advocacy, and mobilization skills through sports.
Progressive Student Alliance, Orono, to unite the UMaine campus community around issues that affect them and to provide a nonpartisan forum for voter education and outreach.
Wabanaki Youth Program, Perry, a project of American Friends Service Committee, to engage young tribal members in planning training programs for youth in each of their communities and producing a video on civil rights issues affecting tribal youth.
League of Young Voters, to engage and educates 14- to- 18-year-olds around activism, community engagement, and the political process and to build an ongoing training program for young people to learn the skills of community and electoral organizing.
Youth Activism Gathering, Hallowell, a project of ROSC (Resources for Organizing and Social Change), to bring young people together to share and develop the skills and vision for lifetime involvement in social change.
Youth Adelantando, a project of PICA (Peace through Interamerican Community Action), to assist high school students in identifying sweatshop-made products and promoting the purchase of Maine- and US-made products and to provide travel expenses for students to visit their El Salvador sister city.
