Where your money goes

Unlike most traditional foundations, Maine Initiatives was built from the bottom up, without the benefit of a large endowment or annual trust income. Conceived by a small handful of people in 1993, we now have 2,000 donors, and the number is growing.

The annual gifts we receive reflect a wide-range of giving ability. Each gift, big or small, is valuable and valued. Our belief that every gift makes a difference has allowed us to give nearly $2 million to grassroots causes throughout the state.

Our supporters appreciate the power of a collective voice, and they know that grassroots action is the path to social, economic, and environmental justice. Most of all, they know that successful organizing takes time and money.
